TRAVEL TRAILER COVER

Travel trailer covers are important pieces of equipment for any trailer owner to consider. Trailers that are stored without proper protection are vulnerable to UV damage, fading or erosion to the exterior layer, and lower resale prices.

Travel trailers are fantastic companions for anyone who loves camping, road tripping or just traveling anywhere in comfort. Yet finally, life usually catches up with you and you have to keep your travel buddy away for a few months or even years.

If this happens, you can wonder what to do to keep your trailer in top condition.  But are trailer covers essential to good storage. Here are the reasons why you should use the travel trailers’ cover.

1.SUN DAMAGE

The roof of your trailer is certainly not as durable as the one on your home. Constant sun exposure sheds the insulation on the building, gradually drying out the caulking used to protect the vents and air conditioning units. Although a cover offers no 100 percent protection, it can significantly slow down sun damage.

It is difficult to argue that it is hard to beat a beautiful, sunny day in the trailer whether you’re driving or kicked back by a lake. However, once your RV sits in the driveway, the colors of the sun’s UV rays are fading, drying out its paint, cracking the roof and damaging the entire rig.

Ensure that your choice coating blocks UV radiation, just because something blocks light doesn’t mean it blocks ultraviolet radiation. If your roof starts buckling or cracking, it does not only look bad, but also can cause problems with the winds, AC units as well as at the top of your RV.

Wrapping your RV will help keeping it off the rays of the sun from rotting. The UV radiation from the sun will ruin your ride by fading color, peeling paint, cracking components and so on.

Consider looking at a cover made from a material that blocks UV rays. Something made of polyester or polypropylene should do the trick especially if it is double or triple-layered. Many are treated specifically to provide extra UV protection.

2.MOISTURE POTENTIAL

The adversary of the typical RV or trailer is Moister. The pine straw, leaves, grass and other types of scrap will accumulate and absorb water on the roof.  During the hot summer months, this is usually not a problem.

However, during the fall and winter, any moisture on the roof may not evaporate. This can lead to mold and mildew come spring. Water is one of an RV’s enemies, specifically when it’s trapped under a tarp. This provides a breeding ground for mold and mildews if condensation gathers below the cover and can’t escape. This can cause freezing and crack around the roof at more extreme temperatures.

Most decent RV coverings are porous but nonetheless breathable. Tiny pores in the fabric allow the evaporation of moisture without allowing water droplets in.

3.SNOW DAMAGE

RV owners that live in northern environment s have to think long and hard about the snow. Just a couple inches of accumulated snow on your rig could cause pretty significant damage. It is especially problematic if you have a couple of quick thaw/freeze cycle during the season.

4.WINDOW SEALS

A great RV trailer cover is going to be big enough to accommodate all your windows too. Keeping them sealed offseason protects the seals around the window against dry cycles and thaw/freeze cycles. You’re going to get longer life out of your seals and caulking.

5.DIRT

Unless you’re interested in washing your RV regularly, a good cover is the easiest way to protect it from dirt and dust. These sediments will, over time, inflict wear and tear on the rig’s sections, components, and the outside. Hardly any bird drops, no leaves trapped, and no general muck means a cleaner RV when you are ready to roll again.

CONCLUSION THOUGHTS

Travel trailer covers will keep dirt, moisture, and even bugs and rodents from making your trailer dirty while in storage. Your RV and RV parts will be more pleasant to be in, look better, and be easier to maintain, all thanks to your cover.

Often, the covers protect the rubber seals, tire, trailer jack wheel and paint that keep your RV running well and looking fresh. The sun, wind, rain, and snow are all causing your paint, rubber, plastic, and glass to get worse over. Not necessarily a cover will eliminate this phenomenon, but it will slow it down.

A trailer cover is anything you put over your travel trailer, when not being used. These coverings are used in storage to protect RVs from the elements. If not covered, your trailer will be subject to quite a lot of abuse from UV rays to wind, rain, and snow.
