If you find yourself in any of the following situations, it’s essential to visit a DMV office or complete your transaction by mail:
- You possess a license or permit from a different state.

DMV ID Number
- Your DMV ID Number is a 9-digit identifier located near the top of your license, permit, or non-driver ID.
- It serves to identify you and remains the same even if you replace your license, permit, or ID.
Document Number
- The Document Number is an 8 or 10-character combination of numbers and letters found on your license, permit, or non-driver ID.
- This number uniquely identifies your document, and it changes when you renew or replace your document.
- When using MyDMV or registering to vote, make sure to use the Document Number from your most recently issued license, ID, or permit.
- Be cautious, as some characters may appear similar, such as “I” resembling “1 (one)” or “O” resembling “0 (zero).”
