Electric Scooter

Have you been enjoying the company of your electric scooter so much you wish you could have it forever? If you want your adult electric scooter to run for many years, you need to make an extra effort in maintaining it. After all, there is no much better way to make the most of your e-scooter experience than by ensuring you are safe during the ride and that your battery-powered vehicle is always in tip-top shape.

In this article, we will give you some tips and tricks on how you can properly maintain your favorite electric ride. But before that, let’s talk about why following these tips is essential.

Why maintain your adult electric scooter?

Did you have a manual scooter before you bought a battery-operated one? If you think your new e-scooter is nothing different from your old scooter in terms of maintenance, better think again. Unlike manual scooters, an electric scooter needs a different type of looking after. Well, technically speaking, this e-ride is very easy to maintain, but it is something you need to do so regularly to keep it safe to use and smoothly sailing on the road all the time.

As an e-scooter owner, all you want is to be able to rely on your ride whenever and wherever you want and need it, and the key to making that possible is by making sure it’s well-maintained and free from scratch all the way through. So, before you get those tires back on the road, here are a few tips to help you maintain your e-scooter:

  1. Tires check

If you are asking yourself why this must be on top of this list, the answer is simple: The tires of your electric scooter are the first to touch the road, so making sure they are in good condition is a must if you want a safe ride. As you check your tires, make sure that its pressure is around 36 to 37. But if you are in for a heavier and tougher ride, make it around 42 to 43. Remember, you need high tire pressure for faster speeds when driving, although that means more battery consumption.

     2. Battery maintenance

Next to tires, your e-scooter’s battery is the second most important part of your electric scooter. Make sure that you are only using a manufacturer-approved charger when charging your battery to avoid electrical issues. Make sure that you also check your e-scooter manual to know the proper way of charging and maintaining your battery’s water level.

  1.  Temperature check

Did you know that very hot and very cold temperatures could cause your electric scooter to perform irregularly? If you want your electric scooter to last long, keep it in a good environment so you can keep it away from extreme temperatures. Put its lithium battery within 80 degrees temperature for longer-lasting battery life.

  1.  Lubrication

The key to a smooth e-scooter ride is regular lubrication. If you haven’t done this yet since buying your electric scooter, then try applying lubricant to its chains to minimize friction. Always keep in mind that you should apply lubricant to your electric scooter chains at least once a week. Before you do so, make sure to clean out all the parts that you are going to lubricate. After doing this, double check the nuts and bolts of your scooter and make sure they are all tightened before you ride your scooter.

     5.  Brakes

Does your e-scooter have calipers or disc brakes? To avoid accidents, it is very crucial that you stop your scooter when you need to. One of the best ways to ensure that your scooter is safe is by conducting a regular tuning while pushing its brakes, so you will know if it is still in good condition or already requires a replacement. You know, brake pads of e-scooters deteriorate over time, and most often this leads to brake failure. To avoid this problem, make sure that your weight is right for your scooter, the rims and discs of your e-ride are fixed at the point of attachment, and that you lubricate the brake pivot at least once a week. This is very important especially if you have used your electric scooter for a long period of time, because that means dirt has already accumulated somewhere, possibly causing your brakes to malfunction.

Needless to say, proper maintenance will help reduce the likelihood of issues—both minor and major—and improve the functionality of your electric scooter. Why waste your money on future repairs if you can prevent those issues now?
