Papers in the JPSC Exam
Listed below are the number of papers in the JPSC Exam in detail. As per the JPSC Syllabus, the exam consists of two stages, Preliminary, Mains and Interview.
JPSC Prelims Exam:
There are two papers in the JPSC prelims exam. The first paper, the General Studies Paper 1, consists of questions from history, geography, economic and sustainable Development, Indian polity and government, national and international current events, general science, technology and IT, agriculture of India. The second paper, General Studies Paper 2, consists of questions from history of Jharkhand, Jharkhand movement, the specific identity of Jharkhand, disaster management in Jharkhand, sports in Jharkhand, major educational institutions in Jharkhand, land related laws in Jharkhand, industries and resources in Jharkhand, literature and literary people in Jharkhand, literature and people in Jharkhand. Therefore, General Studies Paper 1 focuses more on India as a whole, while General Studies Paper 2 focuses more on Jharkhand-related questions. The total marks of General Studies 1 and 2 are 200 each. Therefore, the total marks of the Prelims exam are 400 marks.
JPSC Mains Exam
Once the candidate passes the prelims round, they can sit for the mains exam. The mains exam comprises six papers in total.
- Paper 1: Hindi and English: This paper is 100 marks. Both English and Hindi receive an equal weightage of 50 marks each. Aspirants must get 30 out of 100 to pass this paper.
- Paper 2: Language and Literature: This paper is 150 marks. It will cover the topics of Oriya, Hindi, Urdu, Bengali, Kohodia, Kurux, Ho, Khortha, Santhali, Khadia, Mundari, Nagpuri, Panchpargania, Kamali and English language and literature.
- Paper 3: Social Sciences: This paper is of 200 marks. It will cover the topics of history and geography. The history sections include issues like ancient periods, mediaeval, modern periods, history of Jharkhand, and Jharkhand revolution. In addition, the geography section consists of the natural resources of India, geography of Jharkhand, utilisation of its resources, industrial development, and physical and human geography. Each section is of equal weightage and contains 100 marks each.
- Paper 4: Indian Constitution, Polity, Public Administration and Good Government: This paper is 200 marks. The Indian Polity comprises topics like the preamble, fundamental rights and duties, basic structures and salient features of the Indian Constitution, centre and state relations, and directive principles of state policies. The public administration and good governance include topics like union and state administration, public and private administration, good governance and human rights, and delegation and bureaucracy.
- Paper 5: The Economy of India, Globalization and Sustainable Development and General Sciences: This paper is of 200 marks. The Basic Features of the Indian Economy contains topics like natural income, Indian monetary and its structure, Indian trade, balance of payment, and agricultural and rural economy. The sustainable development, Indian development strategy and economic issues consist of poverty and unemployment, economic and sustainable development, and food and nutrition security. The nature and impacts of the Indian Economy include globalisation of the Indian economy, industrial development and economic reforms of India, agricultural sector, and new economic reforms. The economy of Jharkhand section includes topics like reforms, health indicators in Jharkhand, land, forest and environmental problems in Jharkhand, demography features in Jharkhand, and economic growth in Jharkhand.
- Paper 6: Environment and Technology Development: This paper is 200 marks. The Physical Science section includes understanding unit systems, solar systems, sound concepts, wavelength frequency, infrasonic and ultrasonic sound, speed, gravity, mass, velocity, force, and weight. The Life Science Section consists of topics including cell reproduction, bio molecule, and theories of human evolution. The Agricultural Section comprises soil fertility of Jharkhand, rainfed agriculture, and different agro patterns of Jharkhand. The Environmental Science section comprises biodiversity, ecology, forest conservation act, air and water act, and global environmental issues. The Science and Technology Development section includes computers and their information, biotechnology, nuclear energy, satellite, and national health policy.
Therefore, the total marks of the mains exam in the JSPC exam is 950 marks. The aspirants will get 3 hours to complete each paper.
